Café Rouge offers the rustic fare of France, Spain, and Italy. American dishes are also featured. The restaurant's emphasis is on the preparation of fresh meats and charcuterie. All steaks on the menu have been dry-aged on premises. Produce is chosen in its season. The availability of the freshest fruits and vegetables influences the menu at Café Rouge which changes biweekly.

The restaurant has a growing reputation in the San Francisco Bay Area for its beef, pork, lamb and poultry. All meat is raised hormone free and purchased directly from the growers including Niman Ranch, Liberty Duck of Sonoma, McCormack Ranch and Hoffman Farms. Meats may also be purchased at the meat market/charcuterie which is at the rear of the dining room. Café Rouge butchers make pâtés and cured meats, including liverwurst, mortadella, coppa, pepperoni, and bresaola.

Café Rouge meat market also offers 17 varieties of sausage. Hard-to-find specialties such as boudin noir, cured foie gras, duck proscuitto, and chorizo are house specialties. Special orders are welcome. Rotisserie chickens are a menu favorite and can be ordered to go. Café Rouge has a full bar, a raw shellfish bar, and a wide selection of wines that have been carefully paired to items on the changing menu. Outdoor seating on the plaza in front of Café Rouge is available when the weather permits.
